WE11 What the Cloud Means for the System Administrator: DISCUSSION

March 10th, 2010

2:00 pm - 3:15 pm

Clouds: Cumulus, Nimbus, Google, Amazon... and now Microsoft, which makes 'the cloud" officially mainstream, and officially something you need to worry about. "The Cloud" isn't just an interesting marketing term - they're a disruptor for any system administrator. Just because the server lives in the cloud doesn't make it any less your problem when it comes to management - and management can actually become more complex. You're dealing with less-secure default server images, unknown utilization patterns, and now extensions of your private network into the cloud - and the old ways of managing and monitoring just won't work. In this session, we'll outline the problems, and then discuss what makes up the brave new world of gaining visibility and control over the cloud.
