Traditionally, you would place servers you wanted to expose to the internet on a special network, termed the perimeter network, screened subnet or DMZ. Today, with public cloud providers, it makes increasing sense to relocate workloads you traditionally deployed to perimeter networks to Azure. These workloads on Azure are connected to protected organizational networks through Azure Site-to-Site VPNs.
Migrating workloads to Azure is simplified with the Microsoft Migration Accelerator for Azure. This product lets you migrate physically deployed computers, VMs deployed on VMware or Hyper-V, even VMs deployed in AWS to Azure. For those concerned about replicating perimeter network firewall functionality, Azure includes virtual the Barracuda NG and Web Application firewall appliances which you can configure as part of your Azure deployment.
